Surfing Lesson Overview

A typical beginner surf lesson begins with your wetsuit fitting. Next is a thorough discussion on the beach covering ocean safety, surf etiquette, wave dynamics, the pop-up, and paddling techniques. We'll then go through some land exercises practicing the pop-up and related skiils.

Once in the water, the instructor will align you in a balanced position on your board. Then we teach wave selection and, finally, push you into some breakers to help practice your timing. Depending on your ability and the conditions, we may move on to the next step afterwards, which involves angled takeoffs and turning.

Students who've already taken an introductory lesson will generally paddle out with their instructor to work on advanced techniques.
